Point of Departure

2007
ink and acrylic on paper

A large suite of 40 small, inter-related paintings focusing on a Filipina nurse and her immigration hallucinations. Each of the paintings is compositionally tied to another, in groupings both horizontal and vertical, somewhat like a crossword puzzle.

The paintings have been shown in multiple venues in a variety of combinations, each suggesting different narrative arcs. Static images aren’t really all that static: the same story can be told multiple ways.
