ART 129/150: ADVANCED PAINTING, ABSTRACT PAINTING

Art 129/150 is an advanced/abstract painting course designed to allow students to further develop painting skills, and to expand their critical approach to painting through form and content.
Students explore more complex painting approaches by developing an idea through series, exploring narrative ideas, and experimenting with different painting media and technique. They conceive of, propose, and then spend the term working semi-independently on a cohesive new body of work.
The course is supplemented by demonstrations, critiques, slide lectures on pertinent artists, techniques and themes, field trips, and the occasional brief one-off project. Students are expected to keep an artist’s journal, complete with writings, sketches, and observational studies.
